Home-made Toffee Apples

Home-made toffee apple

Mum always made these for Bonfire Night or Halloween. You’ll need a sugar thermometer.

Ingredients

6-8 medium size apples – sharp, crisp ones like Granny Smith or Cox
450g (1lb) sugar
145ml (5fl oz) water
60g (2oz) glucose
60g (2oz) golden syrup

Wash and wipe the apples, push a skewer or stick into the core of each.

In a heavy pan, dissolve the sugar in the water.
Add the glucose and syrup.
Slowly heat to 145˚C / 285˚F

Dip each of the apples into the melted toffee and twist to ensure the skin is completely covered.
Stand on a greased tray until they have set.

We'd love to know what you think
